You could be forgiven for thinking that on the Vancouver Island Golf Trail it’s all about golf, all of the time. While that is true 90% of the time, given the magnificence of Vancouver Island, we’d be fools to ignore its many, many other charms. So we’re here to change your thinking and give you a unique way to explore Vancouver Island.

If, like most of us, you’re starting to feel golf fever of the worst kind, Andrew Penner’s recent article for Calgary Avenue has just the cure: “Quick and Easy Golf Getaways to Beat the Winter Blues”.
Seeking out sun and swings, Penner visited Scottsdale, Las Vegas and Vancouver Island, flying off to “where the grass is green, the flagsticks are flickering in the warm breeze adn the open-air restaurant patios are open for business”.
Edmonton Sun’s resident golf fanatic Kevin Berkenbosch – aka Bogeyman – recently visited Parksville for a whistle stop Vancouver Island golf trip. What he found was a golfing experience second to none. As he puts it: “Parksville on Vancouver Island offers one of the most peaceful, relaxing and enjoyable golf holidays imaginable.
Getting wild off the tee sounds bad. And ordinarily it is. Wild drives that lead off-fairway into dark holes of rough and despair are generally to be avoided at all costs. But here on Vancouver Island, getting wild off the tee is actively encouraged. Of course, we’ve given it a whole different meaning, so tame that swing and prepare to expend any energy saved for some of these fantastically wild-off-the-tee activities in and around Victoria.
Subdue Wild Salmon
Prime salmon fishing season is upon us.
Golf Vacations Magazine Associate Editor Terry Ross recently took a trip to Vancouver Island, on the trail of hot golfing vacations. Seems he found what he was looking for.
In the resulting cover story and 7-page feature spread, Terry tells a story of unparalleled golf and relaxation.
The North American golf event of the year is upon us and for 2015, it is in our neighbourhood. The 2015 US Open is being held at Chambers Bay, only a short hop away from Vancouver Island, and the eyes of the golfing world are on the Pacific Northwest.
The yet-to-be-determined challenges of Chambers Bay are being rattled around by players and fans alike. We thought it time to conduct a not-so-thorough survey of who you think will respond best to the unique layout at Chambers Bay.

Vancouver Islanders are the envy of the country in that the sub-mediterranean climate permits virtually year-round golf on their home courses as opposed to having to travel for it or watch it on TV.
You’re either planning your big golf trip of the year or already got it picked out. Either way, once you hit the course, you want the best gear in your bag so you can enjoy your vacation. While we don’t normally cover golf gear reviews, we understand that our guests love gear so we say, give the people what they want.
Our friends at PGA.com have released a series of videos on new gear, this one profiling the best drivers of 2014.
Top 25 Islands In the World

After compiling over 79,000 survey participants and over 1.3million votes, the Readers’ Choice Awards recognize the “Best of the Best” of travel destinations, hotels, cities, islands, cruise lines and more.
Yeeowza!! How did we get here and why am I in this handbasket? It would appear I’ve been a little tardy on the posting about golf on Vancouver Island. It’s been a crazy spring what with all the golf and parties. The most recent excursion with the crew from Classic Rock 101 from Vancouver was quite the experience. Bro Jake and Mike Eckford know how to have a great time, and I knew I was in trouble the moment we met for lunch at Crown Isle Golf Resort, it was “Game on” with some fine Island brews.
Last course on the trail and I’m up in wine country again just south of Duncan at Cowichan Golf and Country Club. I’ve brought my 16 year-old and his buddy along. They’ve been practising at the driving range and at a short apr-3 course near our house, but it’s one of their first ventures out onto a full-length course.
