October 27, 2009 Victoria, BC After nearly 13 years of hard work, construction of Victoria’s newest golf course is complete. Through consultation and collaboration with internationally renowned golf architects, tour players and industry experts, the former farmland straddling the municipalities of Saanich and View Royal has evolved into a beautiful, challenging Island golf course consisting of two unique nine hole layouts, the Pacific Nine (open now) and the Highland Nine.
The Highland Nine construction project, led by architect Chris Young, consisted of shaping the holes, laying irrigation and drainage infrastructure, sand capping and seeding. Most of the golf course is already green due to the warm weather Victoria enjoyed this fall, and a program of cultivation practices is underway to provide optimum playing conditions by June 2010.
The Highland Nine completes this 6,600 yard, par 71 course characterized by bent grass greens, lengthy par four holes and “risk and reward” style par fives with stunning views of downtown Victoria, View Royal and the Olympic Mountain Range
The full 18 hole course is scheduled to open for public play in June of 2010, shortly before the Telus World Skins Game at Bear Mountain Resort that will take place June 21-22. In response to a significant demand for nine hole play on championship-calibre courses in Victoria, golfers will have the option of playing a full 18 holes or 9 holes on one of the sides.
Amenities at Highland Pacific Golf also include an award-winning practice facility featuring heated and covered stalls, lights for evening practice, real terrain targets and water hazards; a golf shop that sells a wide range of products including Callaway and Nike Golf; a licensed café and catering facilities for groups up to 70 people.
Highland Pacific Golf was recognized in the “Top 100 for 2008” and again in the “Top 100 for 2009” rankings done by Golf Range Magazine, one of only two practice facilities in BC to win that distinction.
